Hello, My name is Sean I am a current student at Limerick Institute of technology and I am learning Interactive Digital Media. it is a 4 year course filled with front and back end development and design and i am really looking forward to what is in store for me after college.
With this course after i complete my level 8 i will be applying for An Garda Siochana as having a level 8 degree gives me a some bit more favorable advantage to other people applying for the job. You might think that that is somewhat strange but the amazing thing about front end development especially is it can be so versatile in every kind of job out there. With the knowledge of Javascript, CSS and HTML it can give many options as to how you can be used in any high end job.
In my final Playtest I tested out the multiplayer feature for my board game. As they played through the game I could see that they were enjoying it. They played the game using every feature and took around 20 to 25 minutes long. After they completed the game they had very little feedback to give me. They enjoyed the game, Liked the characters, and features and overall had fun with it.
The only bit of constructive criticism I had received is to make the board itself bigger so writing and board markers are easier to see as the board draft is only on an A4 size.
The following is an image of the board currently :
Sorry the play test was short I didn’t get much feedback from the people I asked to test my game
Since I had started making my board game I have always had the intentions of making it a multiplayer option game. I decided to make the multiplayer version the exact same as the singleplayer option with the concept of picking cards that could benefit or cause problems on your travel. The only thing that I will have differently is at the beginning where to start the game both opponents must throw a dice and which ever gets the larger number can pick one of the first three routes to get to the beginning of the wild Atlantic way down in Cork and the other opponent can pick the other options.
The Novelties will also have more of a different use. If the person comes first with only 1 novelty, the person who comes second with 3 novelties will win. This is a feature I added because of 1 opponent having a beginning advantage over the other opponent so the game can still be fair from the beginning.
With these I will also have my final play test done too to see how it properly plays out.
For my playtest my two participants gave me feedback on my game to be improved further. In the feedback from my participants on the single-player mode they said that the race against time is a good concept however it needs more than just 14 turns to beat the game as it is practically impossible to beat it with just 14 turns so I am going to bump it up to 20 to see if that can improve the playstyle of the game.
They also liked the idea of the fact cards down that can be taken at each landmark. They did however say that there isn’t enough of the fact cards and I need to add a lot more in each section for the landmarks so I will be adding that too. I also need to add more tiles that will slow your progress to make the game more challenging so I will add additional flood tiles and breakdown tiles in the board game.
I was told that there should be pictures as well of the landmarks in the real world so people can get insight on what it really looks like. It makes the board look more your actually planning a trip of the wild Atlantic way on a map app such as google maps or something like that. So my options are to add cards that have images of the landmarks that will pair with the fact reading cards or I can have them drawn into the board on free space that’s available and not being used by a trail.
I was also told that if the game was to be for multi-player use that there should be options for opponents to slow each other down and not base it all off of chance while playing the game. So I might add additional landmark cards that’ll make you to take a shortcut and make your opponent take the longer route. Ill also implement some way of being able make your opponents vehicle break down and you will be in control of which landmark your opponent has to stop at.
Finally, I was told that on a portion of the map there should be a tile that start you at the very beginning at Cork so I will probably place that tile before the Aran islands and ill call the tile capsize where the boat you take to the aran islands sinks and you must go back to cork to get a new vehicle to start all over again. It doesn’t sound fair so I will also add a dice roll into it so if the opponent says 4 and the dice lands on 4 you don’t have to go back to Cork you just miss a turn.
Must start in Dublin, you have to pick between one of three routes to get to Cork to start the wild Atlantic way
You use two dice to make it to Cork. Once you arrive in Cork that must change to one dice.
In single-player you have 14 turns to make it to Donegal otherwise you lose the game. 1 turn symbolises 1 day on your trip.
You must stop on the landmarks in Ireland so you can take a card and see what happens to you. You can also take a fact card so you can learn about the area you have stopped in.
if you are one space away from the landmark but you role a number higher than 1, you still must stop to take a card and then you may continue on your travels.
If you land on a breakdown tile you loose your turn and must return to a previous landmark. If you land in a flood you only loose your turn but you do not need to travel to back to a previous landmark.
If you land on present tiles you will be given a novelty gift that will go towards the score at the end of the game if you were to play an opponent in the game
The story of this game is quite simple. You play as an American who plans to visit Ireland someday on a holiday because he is beginning to grow jealous of his friends travelling to the emerald isle to see breath taking scenery, food and fun. You have your plain ticket booked and your Volkswagen campervan has been booked for the two weeks to be picked up at Dublin airport. You have everything done but you don’t have your travel route planned. You take out your phone and begin to map out a route to pick when your over.
You decide to do the wild Atlantic way so you must begin by travelling from Dublin to mizen head down in Cork, and travelling all along the coast up to Donegal in the two weeks. However, once you reach Cork on the day you arrive you come across some minor problems as you travel such as car problems, diversions, flooded roads and cattle crossings all things that will divert you somewhere else or slow down your progress.
Your key is to get up to Donegal and back to Dublin before the end of the two weeks (14 turns in single-player). If you don’t make it in time you will be stranded in Ireland for god knows how long. However, if you do come across paths that will slow you down there is also paths that will speed up your travels and can never forget to get present for the family to bring back to America.
And who knows maybe someday when your back home from your travels your jealous friend will feel the same. You could end up taking him back with you to Ireland again and maybe have a friendly wager match on a race through the wild Atlantic way throughout Ireland.
You and your friend are planning a trip to Ireland to do the wild atlantic way and you decide to have a race on who can do it the fastest before the other person. so before you journey out to the wild atlantic way you plan out your route on your phones.
How To Play:
Both players begin in Dublin
Both players must choose a route to take to get to cork (both players cannot pick the same route)
You begin with two dice until you reach cork then you must change to one dice.
you then race your opponent from cork city all the way up to malin head in the north.
Each city and landmark you reach you must take a card, the card will give you a decision to take a short cut, miss a turn or get an extra role on your turn by landing doubles (this can only be done once).
if you role a six but the next landmark is in two steps you must stop at the landmark and you loose the extra 4 steps.
The opponents start at the bottom left and top right of the board
Roll the Dice to move that amount of squares
Players move left to right, bottom to top
Players move opposition back if next to each other
If the opposition has 12 squares or less, you can win by 12 or that number (except when the opponent has 1 square left)
If you roll the dice and get a double you will be able to have another go straight away, if you get three matching numbers in a row on the dice you automatically get moved back to your original position.
As an avid gamer, video-games is something that i have grown up with all my life. i do find it very difficult to narrow it down to just five games, however there is five that i can think of even to this day that i am happy that i have had with me growing up with throughout my life. My favourite genre of games are very different from each other. I love FPS, MMO, RPG, space and futuristic games. A lot of the games on this list are games that people can relate and understand what i mean by how important these games are to me and i know at least one of these games will also be on your top 5 games of all time.
In my number 5 position my first favourite game came out in 2011, The Elder Scrolls V : Skyrim. Skyrim is an open world RPG dragon slayer game developed by Bethesda Studios that takes place on the mythical island known as skyrim and your destiny is to save it from the return of the dragons and there leader, Alduin. With this game, without the three DLC’s in the game you can easily waste 1000+ hours like i have.
In my number 4 position is Guild Wars 2. Guild Wars 2 is an online massive multiplayer based in the mythical continent Tyriel. you play as a customisable character who wants to play his part in the world by becoming more and more powerful to destroy the undead and dark magic who have returned to the continent and there leader one of the elder dragons. i first discovered this game back in 2010 when i watched my favourite youtubers play the game on there channel. I’ve been playing the game ever since, spending hours and hours on the game and making new friends from around the world everyday. The only reason why this game isnt in my number 1 position is the frames in the game because of how poor my computer has become.
In my number 3 position is and i am one hundred percent sure you have heard of this game is Minecraft. Minecraft is an open world sandbox game made entirely out of blocks where the only limit is your imagination. You can build a house, a farm, a castle, anything you think of. you can go and adventure down to the deepest mines, the most foreign and exotic lands and to different dimensions. Rain or shine you can do all this and fight mobs that attack you and your friends who join you on this adventure. your objective is to simply keep getting resources and making yourself stronger until you are able to go to the final dimension and defeat the Ender dragon. (your probably seeing a pattern of games i play involving a lot of dragons).
In the final two games are ones that i will go into great detail with as they are the ones who have given me the best memories i have had playing video games.
In my number 2 position and if this isnt on your top 5 games i will be in shock. My number 2 position is Halo : Reach. You play as a lone wolf spartan that has been ordered into a team of spartans known as Noble team on the planet Reach that is currently under siege from the alien speices known as the covenant. Your name is noble 6 a combat, pilot and assassin specialist Spartan, your in a team of another 5 members, some who like you and some who dont like you that much. The team members names are Carter, The leader of noble team. Cat, the intel specialist of the team and isnt really fond of you at first. Jorge, the heavy specialist who you bond with quite quickly in the game. Jun, the scout specialist, you relationship with jun isnt too close except for one mission you do with him half way through the game. And finally is Emile, the close quarters combat specialist, the same with him is you dont have too close of a relationship with him as he likes to stay to himself most of the time and enjoys mocking all the other members of the team. The reason why you are not on the best terms with them at the start of the game is because you are a replacement to the previous noble 6 who was killed in an explosion he set off on a space-ship. It was supposed to be cat who sets off the bomb on the ship but on her way she was hit with a mortar shell ripping her arm from her body.
Noble 1 – Carter
Noble 2 – Kat
Noble 3 – Jun
Noble 4 – Emile
Noble 5 – Jorge
Noble 6 – You
As you progress through the game you get dropped down into massive warzones, stealth operations and search and destroys. The games offers beautiful scenery of the planet and it pulls at your heart strings way too often. you unfortunately have to witness the loss of your teammates, hundreds of deaths and destruction and all the loss of absolutely everything. as you progress through each mission you loose one member of your team every few missions all due to heroic sacrifices they make. You loose Jorge to an explosion that he sets off on the covenant flag ship. He saves your life by throwing you from space and you plummet down back to the planet. You then loose kat as you all are trying to escape the covenant.she dies from a plasma bullet through her head. Jun survives from leaving the team by bringing Dr. Halsey to an evac site. Carter sacrifices himself by crashing a pelican (military plane)into a covenant tank called a scarab so you and Emile can escape. Emile then gets ambushed by Elites and gets stabbed to death with energy swords. All thats left in noble team is you. you decide to stay behind to man an aerial gun to defend the ship, ‘the pillar of autumn’ from covenant attack ships. Once the ship escapes with probably the most important technology and spartan in the franchise and video game history, The AI Cortana and Spartan Sierra 117 also known as the master chief, you are back to your roots as the lone wolf to fend for yourself in a last stand as you fight off waves of Covenant elites. you eventually get swarmed and end up shot and stabbed to death. In the epilogue of the game however you discover that reach was won back again even after the covenant have won the first war of reach. it gives you a bitter sweet ending to the game you helped save the planet and galaxy but at the cost of your own life.
And now we are finally onto my final number one position in my list. Ill try to keep the plot of the game short as it is something special to experience on your own without any spoilers. in my number one position is Destiny 2. I have made so many friends playing this game. Friends who sit next to me everyday in college and friends across over in america. This game means so much to me that me and my friend are getting tattoos of the game. The game is designed to bring people closer together to support each other in raids and strikes. To keep the plot of the game spoiler free, Earth is in ruins, it happened when a massive technological orb known as the traveller was found on mars and brought to earth. Cities and countries were destroyed when aliens from around the galaxy travel to earth to steal its power and they almost succeed until the traveller deceides to go into a permanent hibernation and gift certain people in the last city of earth the power of the light to fight off the darkness. you are known as the guardian by the people, you and hundreds of other players who are along side you on the journey. You have a choice of personal customisation and a choice of three classes, the titan, the hunter, and the warlock (warlock master race). The last city of earth gets attacked and taken over by the cabal, an alien race from the depths of mars. they trap the traveller so there leader can feed on all the light and become the most powerful being in existance. it is your mission to stop him and bring back the vanguards to create an army to stop him.
